We are delighted that you are interested in joining Brooklyn Youth Chorus!

Acceptance to Brooklyn Youth Chorus, and level placement, is determined through an audition, conducted in a relaxed and informal atmosphere. Prospective students perform simple pitch-matching exercises, sing scales, and the familiar song “Happy Birthday.” A love of singing is the most important entry requirement. Auditions are ongoing throughout the year.

Most new choristers begin in one of the Training Divisions, organized by age and level of skill and experience. Advanced singers (ages 12+) may be placed in one of the Performing Ensembles.

Training Division singers rehearse once or twice weekly and perform in two major concert recitals each year and special events by invitation.

  • Preparatory (ages 7-9): choristers born in years 2008-10
  • Pre-Teen (ages 10-12): choristers born in years 2005-07
  • Teen (ages 13+): choristers born in 2004 or earlier
  • Young Men with changed voices (ages 12 – 18): boys with changed voices (tenor or bass)

Ensemble singers rehearse two or three days per week and maintain an active schedule of performances and events.

We will contact you when we hold the next round of auditions.
